About Summer Eclipse False Sunflower

Heliopsis helianthoides 'Summer Eclipse' brings upright stems, dark burgundy-green foliage, and orange-and-yellow flowers to a sunny garden. This compact selection flowers from early summer into fall, extending color through the warm season ([Darwin Perennials](https://www.darwinperennials.com/Products/Details/?phid=032202846046846)). ## Site and seasonal use Plant it where its contrasting leaves and two-tone flowers can be seen from a path or among grasses and other late-season perennials. Darwin lists a garden height and spread of about 24–30 inches, with 30–36 inches of spacing; allow room for air and for the flowering stems to rise above neighboring plants. ## Growing conditions Choose a sunny position and use a well-drained bed. The breeder lists medium water needs, so water newly planted crowns while they establish, then adjust irrigation to local rainfall and soil rather than letting the planting stay waterlogged. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower heads if you want to keep the display tidy. Cut back dead stems after the growing season, and leave healthy foliage in place until it naturally declines.
