About Hinto Amethyst Heliotrope

Heliotropium 'Hinto Amethyst' is a compact heliotrope with large, dark violet-blue flower clusters on sturdy stems. Monrovia lists it at 10–12 inches tall and 20–24 inches wide, with bloom from late spring through summer; it is suited to containers and mixed plantings. ([Monrovia plant profile](https://www.monrovia.com/hinto-amethyst-heliotrope.html)) ## Garden use The compact habit makes this selection a useful flowering accent in pots, baskets, or the front of a seasonal planting. The dark violet-blue clusters provide a strong color block above the foliage. Monrovia lists USDA Zones 9–11 and also describes the plant as annual color in all regions, with shrubby evergreen growth where it is hardy. ## Growing conditions Grow in full sun. Let the top few inches of potting mix dry before watering, then water thoroughly; use a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish the plant. Monrovia recommends a general-purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. ## Maintenance Shear lightly after flowering if a tidy shape is wanted. In frost-prone areas, grow it as a seasonal annual or move a container to a protected place; its zone listing describes where it can persist, not a guarantee of winter survival in every site.
