About Honeymoon® 'New York Night' Hellebore

Honeymoon® ‘New York Night’ is a Lenten rose with single, near-black flowers that shift among jet black, deep gray-purple, and black-purple, forming an evergreen clump about 18–24 inches tall and wide for shaded borders, woodland edges, or containers. Walters Gardens places it in the HONEYMOON® Series and lists USDA zones 4–9; White Flower Farm reports the same size and a March-to-April bloom period. [Walters Gardens’ cultivar profile](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HELNY) and [White Flower Farm’s plant page](https://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/products/helleborus-honeymoon-new-york-night) support these details. ## Flowers and placement The open single flowers show their dark shades best against the plant’s glossy green leaves. Plant in part to full shade in fertile, humus-rich soil with reliable drainage. It works well at the front of a woodland border, in groups beneath deciduous trees, or in a patio pot. ## Seasonal interest The main display is in early to mid-spring, often beginning in late winter and lasting several weeks. Evergreen foliage carries the planting through the rest of the year. The flowers are also suitable for cutting, and the plant is listed as deer and rabbit resistant. ## Maintenance Keep the soil moist but not saturated during active growth. Remove damaged older foliage in spring as new leaves appear, and allow the clump to settle before considering division.
