About Snowbells Hellebore

‘Snowbells’ is a white-flowered Helleborus niger selection with semi-double, side-facing flowers, so the blooms can be seen from a path or patio. The breeder lists plants at 10–12 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide, hardy in USDA zones 4–9 ([Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HELBE)). ## Garden Use This winter-to-early-spring perennial suits shaded borders, woodland edges, and seasonal containers. Its white flowers are 2½–3 inches across, and the breeder notes that H. niger selections bloom earlier than many hybrid hellebores. The evergreen foliage remains useful after the flowers fade. ## Siting and Water Choose part shade to full shade and soil that holds moisture without staying waterlogged. Walters Gardens recommends Snowbells for moist woodland areas and winter or holiday containers; its profile lists average to low water needs and average or fertile soil. Keep the crown at soil level and add organic matter where the ground dries quickly. ## Maintenance Water during prolonged dry spells, particularly in the first growing season. Remove damaged or tired leaves as new growth appears so the flowers and fresh foliage remain visible. Leave healthy evergreen leaves in place through winter, and avoid repeatedly disturbing the established root system ([Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HELBE)).
