About Dusky Rose Daylily Early Summer Rebloomer

‘Always Afternoon’ forms a leafy clump topped by mauve flowers with buff edging, a purple eyezone, and a green throat. The American Hemerocallis Society records 5.5-inch blooms on 22-inch scapes, an early bloom season, and rebloom; local timing and repeat flowering depend on climate and establishment. ## Placement and seasonal interest Use this named selection near a path or in a perennial border where its contrasting eye can be seen. Daylilies send successive flowers over a longer display even though each individual bloom lasts only a day. A sunnier position generally supports more flowers, while light afternoon shade can be useful in hot gardens. ## Growing conditions Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Water during dry spring and early summer weather, and avoid a spot that stays waterlogged. The [RHS daylily guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/hemerocallis) notes that shade and drought can reduce flowering. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowers and cut finished flower stalks after their buds have opened. Clear dead leaves as needed, and divide crowded clumps in early spring or early autumn. See the [registered cultivar record](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/always-afternoon/) for its bloom traits.
