About Red yellow Daylily Midsummer

‘Baja’ produces large, single red flowers with a green throat above a clump of strap-shaped foliage. The American Hemerocallis Society records 6-inch blooms on 26-inch scapes, early-midseason flowering, rebloom, and semi-evergreen foliage. ## Placement and seasonal interest Plant this established selection in a sunny perennial border or in a group where the red flowers can be repeated through the planting. Daylily buds open in succession, so the display lasts longer than any one flower; rebloom may follow the first flush when growing conditions are favorable. ## Growing conditions Choose fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun tends to produce the strongest flowering, although light shade is tolerated. Water during dry weather, particularly in spring and early summer, and avoid standing water. The [RHS daylily guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/hemerocallis) describes the genus’s soil and light preferences. ## Maintenance Remove faded blooms and finished flower stalks to keep the planting neat. Leave healthy foliage in place until it declines, then clear dead leaves. Divide a dense clump in early spring or early autumn if it has outgrown its space. The [registered cultivar record](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/baja/) documents the flower color and season.
