About Burgundy-Purple Daylily Midsummer Rebloomer

Hemerocallis ‘Bettylen’ is a fragrant, dormant-foliage daylily with purple, five-inch flowers edged in white and finished with a green throat. The American Daylily Society lists early-midseason bloom, rebloom, and scapes about 22 inches tall, giving this cultivar a repeat-flowering role in summer borders ([American Daylily Society](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/bettylen/)). ## Garden use The strong contrast between the purple petals, toothy white edge, and green throat is easiest to appreciate near paths or at the front of a mixed perennial bed. Allow room for a clump of arching, grass-like leaves and place it where the midseason flowers can be seen at close range. ## Growing conditions Choose a sunny position and fertile soil that remains moist but drains well. Daylilies tolerate a range of garden soils; shade can reduce flowering. Water newly planted divisions regularly during dry weather ([RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/179832/hemerocallis-bela-lugosi/details)). ## Maintenance Remove spent flowers and cut flower stems back after the buds finish. Remove dead foliage as needed. Divide the clump in spring or autumn when it becomes crowded; division also provides a way to renew older plantings.
