About Bonanza Daylily

Bonanza is an older daylily selection with fragrant golden-yellow flowers and a dark red or purple eye. It flowers in summer, with an extended display from successive buds, and its green foliage forms a dense clump suited to borders and mixed perennial beds. The [American Hemerocallis Society record](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/bonanza/) lists its registration details, while [Heritage Perennials](https://www.perennials.com/plants/hemerocallis-bonanza.html) gives garden size and care information. ## Garden use Plan for a mature plant about 27–33 inches tall and 23–35 inches wide. The flowers rise above the foliage and bring warm color to mid- and late-summer plantings. Full sun or partial shade is suitable; use the wider end of the spread range when spacing clumps in a mass. ## Growing conditions Bonanza grows in ordinary, sandy, or clay soil with average to moist conditions, provided drainage is reasonable. It is listed for USDA zones 2–9. Established clumps tolerate some dry weather, but watering during extended heat helps maintain foliage and flowering. ## Maintenance Remove spent flower stems after their buds finish. Let healthy foliage remain until it begins to yellow, then clear it in late fall. Divide an older clump in spring or fall if flowering declines or the planting becomes crowded.
