About Buttered Popcorn Daylily

Hemerocallis 'Buttered Popcorn' is a fragrant, dormant daylily registered by Frederick M. Benzinger in 1971. It bears butter-yellow flowers about 6 inches wide on 32-inch scapes and blooms in the mid-to-late season, with rebloom reported by its grower. [American Hemerocallis Society](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/buttered-popcorn/) [Oakes Daylilies](https://oakesdaylilies.com/collections/southern-gardeners-sale/products/buttered-popcorn-daylily) ## Garden use The clear yellow flowers brighten a perennial border or mass planting and contrast well with blue, purple, and dark-leaved companions. The scapes rise above strap-like foliage, making the flowers easy to see among lower plants. Use the cultivar where its midseason color can bridge early and late daylilies. ## Growing conditions Choose a sunny site with ordinary garden drainage. Newly planted roots need steady moisture while they establish; established daylilies tolerate normal dry intervals better than fresh divisions. The American Hemerocallis Society records this cultivar as dormant, so its leaves die back seasonally. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowers and old scapes for a tidy display. Divide crowded clumps when flowering weakens or the planting outgrows its space, and clear dead foliage after it has naturally declined.
