Hemerocallis 'Cosmic Struggle' is a fragrant, reblooming daylily with wine-purple flowers edged in lemon yellow. The American Hemerocallis Society records a 26-inch scape, a midseason bloom, semi-evergreen foliage, and a six-inch flower.
## Landscape and season
The strong purple-and-yellow contrast makes this cultivar useful as a summer focal point, in a border, or in a mass planting. Its flowers open in July and may produce a second flush later in the season. The registered color description also notes a dark lavender watermark and a yellow-to-green throat.
## Growing conditions
Plant in full sun or part shade. Walters Gardens lists a spread of 18 to 24 inches and USDA hardiness zones 3 through 9. The grower describes the plant as adaptable to poor or dry soils and notes its tolerance of salted pavement and black walnut conditions; established plants still benefit from water during extended drought.
## Maintenance
Remove spent flowers and cut flower stems back once their buds have finished. Divide clumps every few years if they outgrow their space or bloom less freely. The [American Hemerocallis Society record](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/cosmic-struggle/) gives its registration traits, while [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HMCOS) provides its dimensions, hardiness, exposure, and garden-use information.
