Hemerocallis 'Cosmopolitan' is a compact daylily with small rose-pink to reddish flowers and a yellow throat. The American Hemerocallis Society records an 18-inch scape and a 2.5-inch bloom; the Royal Horticultural Society describes its green, arching leaves and summer flowers.
## Landscape and season
This early to midseason cultivar is suited to the front or middle of a sunny perennial border, and it can be planted in groups for a repeated band of color. The flowers open in succession rather than lasting for many days individually. Published mature-size estimates differ: one profile gives a spread of 23 to 27 inches, while the RHS gives a broader range, so leave room for the clump to expand.
## Growing conditions
Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. It tolerates clay as well as lighter soils, and may need water in spring or early summer during dry weather to support flowering. The RHS describes the foliage as deciduous and the habit as clump forming.
## Maintenance
Remove flower stems after their last buds open and clear away dead leaves as needed. Divide a crowded clump in early spring or early autumn to maintain vigor.
