Orange daylily

Orange daylily (*Hemerocallis fulva*) makes arching, strap-shaped leaves and tawny orange flowers on upright scapes. Each flower lasts a day, while new buds open in succession through summer, giving established clumps a long seasonal display. ## Garden Use This vigorous species forms broad clumps and spreads by rhizomes, so it suits a managed border, a mass planting, or a slope where coverage is useful. It can naturalize beyond its planting area; check local guidance and leave space from small or slow-growing neighbors. ## Growing Conditions Grow it in full sun or partial shade in average, well-drained soil. It tolerates poorer ground and is adaptable once established. North Carolina Extension describes foliage clumps around 2.5 feet wide and flowering scapes that can reach 6 feet; the lower foliage and tall bloom stalks create different layers in a planting.
