About Funny Valentine Daylily

‘Funny Valentine’ is a tetraploid daylily with saturated rose-red, ruffled flowers and a bright green throat. Its dark blue-green foliage remains attractive between blooms, and branched scapes carry many buds for an early-midseason display. ## Garden Use Use this cultivar in a sunny perennial border, container, or mass planting where its red flowers can contrast with pale or yellow companions. Walters Gardens lists mature dimensions of about 25–28 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide, with hardiness in USDA zones 3–9. ## Growing Conditions Choose full sun for the strongest flowering; part shade is also listed for this selection. It grows in a range of soils, including poor, average, and fertile ground, and is listed for low to average water needs. The American Daylily Society records a 5.5-inch flower, 28-inch scape, dormant foliage, and early-midseason bloom. ## Maintenance Daylilies are adaptable perennials. Keep the root zone evenly moist during establishment, then water as needed during prolonged dry weather. Remove spent flowers for appearance and divide crowded clumps in spring or fall. See the [Walters Gardens cultivar profile](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HMFUV) and [American Daylily Society registration](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/funny-valentine/) for cultivar-specific traits.
