About Handwriting on the Wall Daylily

‘Handwriting on the Wall’ is a fragrant, reblooming daylily with dusty pink petals, a wine-lavender eye and edge, fine ivory-gold markings, and a yellow to light olive throat. Its large, six-inch flowers open on scapes about two feet tall in midseason. ## Garden Use Use this named selection where its patterned flowers can be seen up close, such as along a path or in a mixed perennial bed. It is a tetraploid cultivar with semi-evergreen foliage, so the leaves may persist longer in mild climates than those of dormant daylilies. ## Growing Conditions Plant in a sunny position with soil that drains freely. Daylilies flower best with good light and consistent moisture, though established plants can tolerate short dry periods. Flowering dates vary by climate; “midseason” describes its relative place among daylilies, while the rebloom can extend interest later in the season. ## Maintenance Remove individual spent blooms for a neat display, then cut the scape after its buds have finished. Divide the clump when it becomes crowded, working in spring or fall and replanting divisions promptly. See the [American Daylily Society cultivar record](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/handwriting-on-the-wall/) for registered height, flower size, color, fragrance, foliage type, and rebloom habit, and [Walters Gardens’ daylily growing notes](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HMHAR) for general division and care guidance.
