About Mardi Gras Parade Daylily

Hemerocallis ‘Mardi Gras Parade’ bears lavender flowers with a wine-purple eye and green throat on a compact clump. It flowers in early to mid-summer; its small, ruffled blooms measure about 3.75 inches across. [Gardenia](https://www.gardenia.net/plant/hemerocallis-mardi-gras-parade-daylily) and [Hillsdale Lily Garden](https://hillsdalelily.com/shop/p/mardi-gras-parade-24-em-d-375-bloom) identify the Kroll selection and describe its color and season. ## In the Garden Allow roughly 18–24 inches of room for the slowly expanding clump. A sunny or lightly shaded border, slope, or large container suits its modest size. Average, moist, well-drained soil supports flowering; Gardenia notes that fertile loam is preferred, while the plant can grow in a range of garden soils. Water deeply in prolonged dry weather, especially while the planting is becoming established. ## Seasonal Interest The early-to-midseason flowers bring a cool lavender tone with a strong dark eye and chartreuse-green throat. Individual flowers last less than a day, but buds open in succession along the scapes. The dormant, deciduous foliage dies back after the growing season, leaving the bed clear for spring growth. ## Maintenance Remove spent flowers and seedpods if you want to keep the planting tidy. When a flower stalk has finished, cut it near the base; remove dead leaves after they die back. Divide only when a mature clump becomes crowded. The [Gardenia profile](https://www.gardenia.net/plant/hemerocallis-mardi-gras-parade-daylily) also notes that daylilies are toxic to cats, so choose a location that pets cannot reach.
