About Orange Daylily

Orange daylily bears tawny orange, trumpet-shaped flowers in succession above arching, strap-like foliage. Each bloom lasts a day, while successive buds extend the summer display. [Purdue Arboretum](https://www.arboretum.purdue.edu/explorer/plants/22267/) lists Orange Daylily as Hemerocallis fulva, and [North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hemerocallis-fulva/common-name/daylily/) describes its spreading habit and garden uses. ## Landscape Use Use it in a border, mass planting, or on a slope where a spreading clump can have room. Rhizomes expand quickly, so allow space or divide the clump when it grows beyond its place. Its flowers and foliage also suit a larger naturalized planting. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun to partial shade and average, well-drained soil; it tolerates poorer soil. North Carolina Extension gives a height range of 3–6 feet including scapes and a width of 2–2.5 feet. [Established daylilies tolerate drought](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/hemerocallis/growing-guide), but young plants need water during dry spells and flowering is better with moisture. ## Maintenance Remove finished flower stems for a tidier appearance. Divide established clumps every few years to maintain vigor and manage their spread.
