Purple d’Oro is a compact clumping daylily with reddish-purple, lightly ruffled flowers and yellow throats. It can rebloom, so fresh flowers may appear in successive flushes through the growing season.
## Siting and bloom
Give the plant full sun or part shade and ordinary, well-drained garden soil. Published mature-size estimates vary: one grower lists an 18-inch height and 24–36-inch spread, while the Missouri Botanical Garden gives a broader 18–24-inch range for both dimensions. Leave room for the foliage clump to widen and use the range as a planning guide. [Growing Colors](https://growingcolors.development.clarity-connect.com/plant/Hemerocallis-Purple-Doro) and the [Missouri Botanical Garden Plant Finder](https://plantfinder.mobot.org/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?basic=%25&isprofile=0&taxonid=254154) describe the cultivar’s form and garden culture.
## In the garden
The arching, grass-like leaves make a tidy edge for a sunny border or a small container. Individual flowers are short-lived, but repeated flowering gives the planting a longer display.
## Maintenance
Remove faded flowers and spent scapes to keep the clump neat; deadheading can encourage further bloom. Water deeply during prolonged dry weather, and divide an established clump every few years if it becomes crowded. [Wayside Gardens](https://www.waysidegardens.com/products/hemerocallis-purple-doro-36018) notes repeated flowering and recommends removing spent flowers.
