About Raspberry Suede Daylily

Raspberry Suede is a dormant-foliage daylily with rich raspberry-red flowers, a small green throat, and a softly ruffled, suede-like surface. Its branched scapes carry many buds, extending the midsummer show as individual flowers open in sequence. ## Siting and bloom Choose full sun or light shade and well-drained garden soil. Breeder and nursery descriptions place the plant near 28 inches tall, with 5-inch flowers and hardiness in zones 3–9; the mature clump spreads about 18–24 inches. These figures make it useful in a sunny border or a grouped perennial planting. [Breck’s cultivar profile](https://www.brecks.com/products/raspberry-suede-daylily) and [Blooming Designs](https://www.bloomindesigns.com/copy-of-hemerocallis-raspberry-suede-25-br-plants/) describe its color, flower form, and size. ## Flower display The deep color is most effective where the dark petals have a lighter backdrop. Place the plant where the rounded clump and flower stems will not be hidden by taller neighbors. ## Maintenance Water regularly while establishing and during extended dry spells. Cut back spent flower stems after bloom, then let the foliage complete its seasonal growth before removing it as it dies back. Divide crowded clumps to restore vigor.
