Red Cadet is a named daylily selection in the genus Hemerocallis. Like other daylilies, it forms a leafy clump and suits perennial beds where its seasonal flowers can rise above the foliage.
## Siting
Choose a sunny or partly shaded position in average, well-drained soil. Daylilies adapt to a range of garden soils, and deeper watering during dry spells helps keep their leaves in good condition. Leave room for the clump to widen rather than crowding it against a path or neighboring plants. The [Missouri Botanical Garden Plant Finder](https://plantfinder.mobot.org/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?basic=%25&isprofile=0&taxonid=254154) summarizes daylily culture; a [USDA nursery crop schedule](https://legacy.rma.usda.gov/tools/eplpps/2009/IDBK2009.pdf) lists the cultivar as *Hemerocallis* ‘Red Cadet’.
## In a planting
Use Red Cadet in a mixed perennial border or repeat it in small groups. Combining the foliage clump with plants of different heights keeps the planting layered while leaving room to see the flower stems.
## Maintenance
Water new plants until established and during prolonged dry weather. Remove faded flower stems after bloom and clear old foliage when it yellows or dies back. Divide a mature clump when it becomes crowded or its flowering declines.
