About Rocket City Daylily

Rocket City is a classic daylily with large bittersweet-orange flowers marked by a darker burnt-orange eye. Its recurved petals and extended daily flower opening make the midseason bloom easy to notice in a sunny perennial planting. ## Flowers and garden use Scapes reach about 36 inches above foliage, while the clump spreads about 18–24 inches. Walters Gardens places Rocket City in Zones 3–9 and notes July flowering, dormant foliage, and flowers that remain open for at least 16 hours. Use it as a bright accent in a border, patio container, or mass planting. The [Walters Gardens cultivar profile](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HMROC) and [American Daylily Society record](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/rocket-city/) document its color, season, and hybridizer. ## Growing conditions Grow in full sun or part shade in soil that drains well. Daylilies adapt to a range of garden soils, and established plants tolerate periods of dryness; regular watering during establishment and prolonged drought supports better growth and flowering. ## Maintenance Remove spent blooms for appearance and cut back old flower scapes after flowering. Divide clumps every three to four years if they become crowded. A tidy planting of this cultivar can be maintained with routine deadheading and seasonal cleanup.
