About Ruby Stella Daylily

Hemerocallis ‘BERRUB’, marketed as Ruby Stella, is a compact daylily with burgundy-red flowers and a yellow throat ([cultivar patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/US20050193452P1/en)). Its buds open in succession, and repeat flowering can continue from early summer into fall; a [Chicago Botanic Garden profile](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/hemerocallis-ruby-stella-ruby-stella-daylily) notes successive blooms and possible rebloom. Several buds and scapes extend the display even though each flower lasts just one day. ## Garden Use The compact clump suits a sunny border edge, mass planting, or a patio container. Allow roughly 18–24 inches for the foliage and give the scapes room to rise above neighboring plants. Flowering is best with good light; afternoon shade can help keep blooms fresh in hot climates. ## Growing Conditions Use well-drained soil and water regularly while a new clump establishes. Established daylilies tolerate dry spells, though they flower best when soil does not remain parched. [University of Minnesota Extension](https://extension.umn.edu/garden-and-home/yard-and-garden/gardening-in-minnesota/daylilies) recommends full sun with light shade tolerated and moist, well-drained soil. ## Maintenance Remove spent flowers or seedpods for a tidy display, and cut finished flower stalks near the base. In early spring, clear away dead foliage. Divide only when an older clump becomes crowded or flowering declines.
