About Ruffled Apricot Daylily

Ruffled Apricot is a fragrant, tetraploid daylily selected for large, ruffled apricot flowers marked with lavender-pink midribs and a golden throat. The American Daylily Society records 7-inch blooms on 28-inch scapes in early to midseason; a [Red Butte Garden record](https://redbuttegarden.org/plants/species/2487/) places bloom from June through August. Its warm color and textured petals stand out in a perennial border without requiring a tall backdrop. ## Garden Use Plant it in a sunny or lightly shaded bed, where the clump can widen to roughly 18–24 inches. It combines well with grasses and other summer perennials, and the large flowers can be cut for short-lived arrangements. ## Growing Conditions Grow in full sun for the strongest flowering, with some afternoon shade acceptable in hot sites. Ruffled Apricot adapts to clay, loam, sand, and chalk soils when drainage is adequate. Keep new plantings evenly moist; established clumps handle brief dry periods better than prolonged drought. The [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/100014/hemerocallis-ruffled-apricot/details) recommends fertile, moist but well-drained soil. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowers and cut flower stalks after their buds finish. Clear old foliage as it dies back, and divide a crowded clump in early spring or after flowering.
