About Russian Rhapsody Daylily

Russian Rhapsody is a midseason tetraploid daylily with violet-purple flowers and a yellow throat. The American Daylily Society lists a 30-inch scape, 6-inch bloom, and repeat flowering; a [cultivar profile](https://www.perennials.com/plants/hemerocallis-russian-rhapsody.html) gives a 27–29-inch height and 29–35-inch spread. Its semi-evergreen foliage forms a dense green clump, while the upright scapes bring flowers above it. ## Garden Use Use it in a sunny or partly shaded perennial border, mass planting, or as a cut flower. Give the clump about 30 inches of room as it matures, and place it where its mid-summer flowers can be seen against lighter foliage or blooms. ## Growing Conditions Russian Rhapsody is listed for USDA zones 2–9 and tolerates clay, sandy, or ordinary garden soil. It performs in full sun or partial shade; average moisture is suitable, with regular water helpful during establishment and dry spells. The [Colorado State University perennial trial](https://agsci.colostate.edu/landscapeplants/wp-content/uploads/sites/57/2020/04/2018-CSU-Perennial-Demonstration-Garden-Report.pdf) recorded it as a good-quality clump with medium-green foliage. ## Maintenance Remove spent flower stalks after bloom and clear old foliage in late fall or early spring. Divide only when the clump becomes crowded or flowering weakens.
