About Scarlet Orbit Daylily

Scarlet Orbit is a compact daylily with fragrant, six-inch red flowers and a chartreuse throat. The buds open in sequence, extending the display beyond the one-day life of each flower; established plants may rebloom ([Chicago Botanic Garden](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/hemerocallis-scarlet-orbit-scarlet-orbit-daylily); [Sterrett Gardens](https://sterrettgardens.com/products/scarlet-orbit)). ## Garden use and siting Its roughly 22-inch flower stalks fit the front or middle of a sunny border, where the vivid flowers can be viewed up close. The plant grows in full sun or partial shade and forms a mound of green foliage. Plant in ordinary garden soil with enough space for the clump to expand. ## Seasonal display Scarlet Orbit is described as an early-season bloomer, with possible repeat flowering. Flowering dates shift with local climate; the Chicago Botanic Garden records a May-to-June display. The cultivar has received American Hemerocallis Society Honorable Mention and Award of Merit recognition ([Sterrett Gardens](https://sterrettgardens.com/products/scarlet-orbit)). ## Maintenance Remove spent flower stalks for a tidy appearance. Divide crowded daylily clumps in spring or fall, generally every three to four years ([Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HMSCF)).
