About South Seas Daylily

‘South Seas’ is a fragrant, midseason daylily with ruffled coral-tangerine flowers, a coral-red band, and a yellow-green throat. Its arching foliage forms a clump, and the cultivar can rebloom after its first flush ([American Daylily Society](https://daylilies.org/cultivar/south-seas/); [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HMSOS)). ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun for strong flowering, with partial shade also tolerated. A fertile, moist but well-drained soil suits it; water during dry spring and early summer weather while flower buds develop. Walters Gardens lists a 30-inch height and an 18–24-inch spread, and the RHS gives a broader mature size range, so allow room for a substantial clump. ## Garden use Use ‘South Seas’ along a sunny border, in a patio container, or in a grouped planting. The flowers suit a warm palette with gold, apricot, or red companions, while their fragrance and long opening period extend their display. ## Maintenance Remove spent flowers and cut back old flower stems for a tidy look. Divide established clumps every three to four years in spring or fall, and remove dead foliage as needed ([RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/183045/hemerocallis-south-seas/details); [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HMSOS)).
