About Spellbinder Daylily

‘Spellbinder’ is a fragrant, tetraploid daylily with large tangerine-orange flowers, a green throat, and lightly ruffled edges. Its scapes reach about 34 inches, and the cultivar flowers from midseason into late season ([Seize the Daylilies](https://seizethedaylilies.com/products/spellbinder-baker-s-h-1973); [Blooming Designs](https://www.bloomindesigns.com/Hemerocallis-spellbinder-25-plants/)). ## Growing conditions Give this clump-forming perennial full sun for best flowering; partial shade can be suitable in hot climates. Grow it in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, and provide water during dry spells while buds are forming. The flowers rise well above the foliage, so leave room for the tall scapes in a mixed border. ## Garden use The warm orange flowers work well as a focal accent among grasses and blue or purple perennials. Plant several together for a broad mid- to late-season display, or place it where the fragrant blooms can be enjoyed up close. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowers and finished scapes for a tidy appearance. Divide crowded clumps in spring or fall to maintain vigor; daylilies generally need little routine pruning ([Walters Gardens daylily growing guidance](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HMSOS)).
