About Black Taffeta™ Coral Bells

Black Taffeta™ coral bells is a compact, mounding Heuchera with glossy, deeply ruffled leaves that range from red-brown to nearly black, with purple undersides. In spring, light pink flowers rise just above the foliage, adding a fine seasonal accent to the dark leaves. ## Garden Use Use this cultivar at the front of a mixed border, along an edge, or in a container where its dark foliage can contrast with brighter leaves. Terra Nova lists a 12-inch foliage mound and 15-inch spread; flowering stems may reach about 21 inches. The [breeder profile](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/heuchera-black-taffeta/) also documents its spring flowers, full sun or part shade, and USDA zones 4–9. The [plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP26162P3/en) describes its glossy near-black leaves and purple backs. ## Growing Conditions Grow in well-drained soil with organic matter. Water evenly while plants establish, then avoid keeping the crown wet; a partly shaded site helps protect foliage in hot afternoon sun. ## Maintenance Keep the crown at soil level and trim weathered leaves in early spring. Remove spent flower stems when they finish.
