Create design onlineAbout Citronelle™ Coral Bells
Citronelle™ coral bells are a compact selection of Heuchera villosa grown for bright chartreuse leaves and a rounded, spreading mound. The original plant patent identifies it as a sport of ‘Caramel’; small ivory to white flowers rise above the foliage, and the plant handles heat and humidity well when protected from strong afternoon sun ([plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/US20070130662P1/en), [Saunders Brothers profile](https://www.saundersbrothers.com/plant/Heuchera-Citronelle)).
## Foliage and Flowers
The vivid leaves make a bright counterpoint to dark-leaved perennials and remain the main garden feature through the growing season. Its modest size suits the front of a border, a group planting, or a container. Flower stems stand above the foliage in late spring and summer.
## Growing Conditions
Give the plant partial shade or shade, especially where afternoons are hot. Use well-drained soil and provide average, even moisture; the foliage can scorch when exposed to hot sun. Published dimensions vary by source: foliage is about 10–12 inches tall, flower stems can reach about 16 inches, and spread is reported near 11–14 inches ([GP Plants cultivar profile](https://www.gpplants.com/en/citronelle)).
## Maintenance
Remove damaged leaves in spring and cut old flower stems back after bloom. Keep the crown at soil level and divide the clump when it becomes crowded.
