About Heuchera 'Fire Chief'

Heuchera ‘Fire Chief’ forms a compact mound of red foliage that deepens to maroon as leaves mature. Dark stems carry bicolor pink and white bells above the leaves. ## Garden placement Use it near a border’s front, in groups, or in a container. Terra Nova lists a 9-inch foliage height, 15-inch spread, and 18-inch flower stems; the plant is hardy in USDA zones 4–9. Full sun can work in cool-summer climates, while part shade is a useful default in warmer sites. Plant in organic, well-drained soil and avoid keeping the crown wet. ## Seasonal character The foliage supplies color beyond bloom, including winter interest. Combine the red leaves with softer green or silver foliage for contrast. [Terra Nova’s cultivar profile](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/heuchera-fire-chief/) and [Perennials.com’s profile](https://www.perennials.com/plants/heuchera-fire-chief.html) describe the selection’s color, size, light, and care. ## Maintenance Remove tired leaves in spring and trim spent flower stems when the display ends. Water regularly while the plant establishes, then let the soil dry slightly between waterings.
