Palace Purple is a clump-forming coral bells selection with glossy leaves that shift from olive or bronze-green to deep purple, with wine-red undersides. Pale bell-shaped flowers rise in late spring and early summer; species identity is disputed, so the cultivar is named without assigning a species. [North Carolina State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/heuchera-palace-purple/common-name/purple-palace-coral-bells/) and [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HEUPP) document the selection.
## Landscape Use
Use it along a border, in a woodland planting, as a low ground cover, or in a container. Foliage reaches about 8–12 inches, spreads 12–16 inches, and flowering scapes reach about 20 inches.
## Siting and Soil
Grow in sun or partial shade, with afternoon shade helpful in hot summers. Set the crown at or slightly above the soil surface in organically rich, well-drained soil. Water when the surface begins to dry, especially in sunny sites.
## Maintenance
Remove spent flower stems and damaged leaves as needed. Divide established clumps in spring every few years if crowded. Leave healthy foliage through winter, then clear damaged leaves as new growth begins.
