Create design onlineAbout NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ Black Coral Bells
NORTHERN EXPOSURE™ Black forms a dense mound of rounded, nearly black leaves with small white flowers above the foliage. Its breeder describes it as cold-hardy, long-lived, and rust-resistant; the cultivar profile identifies TNHEUNEB, U.S. patent PP30583, and EU grant EU58586. See [TERRA NOVA® Nurseries’ cultivar profile](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/heuchera-northern-exposure-black/) and [2025–26 catalog](https://terranovanurseries.com/other/catalogs/digital/2025-2026/files/basic-html/page112.html).
## Landscape Use
Use the dark foliage as contrast in a border, mass planting, or container. The breeder lists foliage about 10 inches high and 23 inches wide, with flower stems near 28 inches.
## Siting and Soil
Grow in sun, partial shade, or shade in organic, well-drained soil. Keep soil evenly moist during establishment, not waterlogged. The current profile lists USDA zones 3–10 while the 2025–26 catalog lists 3–9, so no single range is entered.
## Maintenance
Trim tattered leaves in early spring and remove spent flower stems after bloom. Leave healthy foliage through winter and keep the crown uncovered in well-drained soil.
