Create design onlineAbout Pinot Gris Coral Bells
Heuchera ‘Pinot Gris’ is a compact hybrid coral bells selection grown for foliage that changes color through the season. Rounded, wavy leaves emerge orange-yellow with a silver overlay, then mature toward rosy gray-red with darker veins; small creamy-white bell flowers may appear when growing conditions allow.
## Foliage and Flowers
The seasonal color shift makes this selection useful where a small foliage mound can be seen up close, including the front of a border or a container edge. Its flowers rise on slender stems above the low leaves, adding a light vertical accent without competing with the foliage.
## Growing Conditions
Plant in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun to medium shade. The cultivar is documented as tolerant of heat, humidity, and high light, though consistent moisture supports good foliage in brighter sites. Water newly planted coral bells while roots establish; Iowa State Extension notes that Heuchera have shallow roots and can heave during freeze-thaw cycles. See the [Pinot Gris plant patent](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP19592) and [Iowa State’s coral bells guide](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/article/2021/06/heuchera-or-coral-bells).
## Maintenance
Keep soil evenly moist without allowing it to remain waterlogged. After the first hard frost, a protective mulch can help limit winter heaving; check the crown in spring and reset it at the soil surface if it has lifted. Remove faded flower stems for a tidier appearance.
