About Plum Pudding Coral Bells

Heuchera ‘Plum Pudding’ forms a low, spreading mound of ruffled plum-purple leaves with darker veins and a light silvery sheen. Dainty cream to white flowers rise above the foliage on slender scapes in early summer, giving the plant a fine-textured accent while its leaves provide the stronger color. ## Garden Use Use the compact clump along a border edge, in a container, or in a small mass where the purple foliage can contrast with green, silver, or gold leaves. The foliage mound reaches about 8 inches, spreads roughly 12–16 inches, and flowering scapes can reach about 26 inches. ## Growing Conditions Grow in partial shade for strong color and steady growth; full sun is possible where soil does not dry out, while shade is also tolerated. Use fertile, well-drained soil with average moisture, avoiding prolonged wetness and drought. The selection is listed for USDA zones 4–9. See [Walters Gardens’ cultivar profile](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HEUPL) and the [Millcreek Gardens plant catalog](https://catalog.millcreekplants.com/heuchera-plum-pudding) for selection details. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and in dry spells, especially in brighter exposures. Remove spent flower stems if a cleaner outline is preferred. Heuchera crowns can rise through winter freeze-thaw cycles, so check the crown in spring and add a light mulch after the ground freezes where heaving is common.
