About Rio Coral Bells

Rio coral bells combine leaves that emerge peach-red, shift through amber, and mature toward yellow amber with white flowers on maroon stems. The named selection is in Terra Nova’s City™ Series; references describe an 8–10 inch foliage height, 10–14 inch spread, and USDA Zones 4–9 ([Perennials.com](https://www.perennials.com/plants/heuchera-rio.html); [Plant Delights Nursery](https://www.plantdelights.com/products/heuchera-rio-pp-24273)). ## Garden Use Place Rio near a border front, along an edging, or in a mixed container where its changing foliage can be seen close up. The color sequence adds interest when the small white flowers are not in bloom. ## Growing Conditions Grow in part shade, or in full sun where summers stay cool; afternoon shade helps limit scorch in hotter sites. Use average to moist soil that drains well. Plant Delights reports that established trial clumps handled hot, humid summers, while good drainage and average moisture remained important. ## Seasonal Interest White flower sprays appear from late spring into early summer on maroon stems. Nursery references describe the foliage as evergreen, though winter appearance varies with climate. ## Maintenance Remove winter-burned leaves in spring. Otherwise, little pruning is needed; keep the crown at soil level and avoid persistently wet soil.
