Heuchera sanguinea 'Ruby Bells' forms a low mound of lobed green leaves with airy stems of ruby to deep red bells in late spring and early summer. It suits a sunny or lightly shaded border, rock garden, path edge, or container where its flowers can rise above neighboring foliage. [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/211140/heuchera-sanguinea-ruby-bells/details) describes the clump-forming habit and flowering season, while [Benary](https://www.benary.com/products/heuchera-sanguinea-ruby-bells) lists the selection as a deep-red flowering, well-branched plant.
## Size and placement
Allow about 12–16 inches for both height and spread. The leaves make the lower mound; flower stems add height during bloom. Use full sun in cooler settings and partial shade where afternoon heat is strong. [Missouri Botanical Garden](https://plantfinder.mobot.org/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=262193) recommends humus-rich, evenly moist, well-drained soil and notes that established plants can be divided every few years.
## Maintenance
Keep soil from drying during establishment, especially in sun. Remove faded flower stems to tidy the clump and encourage further flowering. In cold-winter gardens, a light mulch after the ground freezes can help limit frost heaving.
