‘Alabama Sunrise’ is a clump-forming Heucherella with deeply cut leaves that emerge gold with red veins, turn greener in late summer, and develop coral or orange-pink tones as autumn arrives. Small white flowers rise above the foliage in late spring and early summer. [Terra Nova Nurseries](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/heucherella-alabama-sunrise/) lists the plant at 12 inches tall and 20 inches wide, in USDA zones 4–9.
## Garden placement
Use this colorful selection in borders, mixed beds, containers, or mass plantings where its changing foliage can be seen. It grows in partial shade to full shade; other cultivar profiles also support sun with adequate moisture. Provide humus-rich, well-drained soil and regular water during establishment and dry weather. The foliage tolerates heat and humidity better than many shade perennials, and its white flowers attract butterflies according to the [Southern Living plant sheet](https://southernlivingplants.com/images/uploads/fact-sheets/Heucherella_Alabama_Sunrise.pdf). The [cultivar patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP19611P2/en) describes the seasonal leaf colors, white flowers, and USDA zone range.
## Maintenance
Keep the crown at soil level and avoid waterlogged soil. Remove dead leaves during the growing season and cut old growth after flowering season; deadhead faded stems at their base to encourage continued bloom, following the Southern Living guidance. A light spring cleanup helps reveal fresh foliage without disturbing the shallow crown.
