Carolina White Hibiscus

Carolina White is a named Hibiscus selection associated with white flowers. Because Hibiscus includes both tender evergreen shrubs and winter-hardy herbaceous perennials, identify the plant’s group before choosing a year-round garden position or winter-protection plan. ## Choosing a site Tropical Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is a tender evergreen grown in bright conditions and protected from cold; the [Royal Horticultural Society’s guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/hibiscus/growing-guide) describes indoor winter culture in cool climates. Hardy rose-mallow hybrids are a different garden group: [North Carolina State Extension’s profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/muenchhusia-hybrid/) describes upright perennials that perform best in full sun and moist, organically rich soil with deep, consistent watering. Treat those as group-specific examples rather than universal requirements for every Hibiscus. Confirm the plant’s actual type and local hardiness before using it in a permanent border; a movable container can provide a practical option where winter conditions are uncertain. ## Seasonal care Hardy types may emerge late in spring and are cut back after dormancy, while tender tropical plants need a bright, frost-free winter location. Keep soil moisture steady for hardy rose-mallows without leaving roots waterlogged. Match pruning and overwintering to the plant’s identified group, since a tropical shrub and a hardy perennial do not share the same seasonal routine. ## Maintenance Check the plant through hot, dry weather and water according to its type and soil conditions. Before planting outdoors year-round, confirm its mature size and winter hardiness with the nursery or supplier.
