About Summer in Paradise Hibiscus

Summer in Paradise is a winter-hardy, herbaceous hibiscus with an upright, well-branched mound and flowering stems from the base to the top. Its hot cerise-red flowers carry a dark red eye and bright yellow pollen above deeply cut, dark green foliage blushed reddish-purple. ## Planting and Display Give this vigorous perennial room to form its broad mound in a sunny garden bed. The patent describes plants about 5.7 feet tall and 4.9 feet wide, with flowers produced along the stems rather than only at their tips. ## Seasonal Display In the patent observations, flowering continued for at least seven weeks beginning in early August. The cultivar was observed in a full-sun trial and is described as winter-hardy; its recorded hardiness is USDA Zones 4–9. [Patent description and history](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP28730) ## Maintenance Keep the root zone evenly moist during active growth; the cultivar description notes that it grows best with plenty of moisture and can tolerate some drought after establishment. Allow space for the upright stems and full seasonal display.
