Create design onlineAbout Boule de Feu Rose of Sharon
Boule de Feu is a historic Rose of Sharon cultivar with large, double, carnation-like flowers in pinkish-red to purplish-red shades. This record represents the tree form, preserving the trained structure of the selected plant rather than treating it as an ordinary shrub.
## Flowers and Form
[SiteOne’s cultivar profile](https://www.siteone.com/en/66731b-hibiscus-syriacus-boule-de-feu-fireball-rose-of-sharon/p/1044540) describes a vigorous, upright plant with flowering from mid-summer through fall and notes that the cultivar can be trained as a small tree. The profile also explains that the trade name Fireball is used for Boule de Feu; the cultivar identity remains Boule de Feu. Cornell’s [Woody Plants Database](https://woodyplants.cals.cornell.edu/cultivar/1417) records its large pink-to-red, carnation-like flowers.
## Growing
Give the tree form a sunny location and adequate room for its canopy. Rose of Sharon grows in a wide range of garden soils; water regularly while the plant establishes and during prolonged dry weather. Maintain the selected tree structure as it matures.
## Maintenance
Inspect the crown and trunk for crossing or damaged growth. Prune selectively to preserve the trained form, and avoid removing healthy framework branches without a clear need.
