About Floru Rose of Sharon

Violet Satin® is Hibiscus syriacus 'Floru', a Rose of Sharon with violet-pink flowers and red centers ([Spring Meadow profile](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/violet-satin-32500), [Chicago Botanic Garden profile](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/hibiscus-syriacus-floru-rose-sharon), [Prides Corner listing](https://pridescorner.com/plant-name/Hibiscus-syriacus-Violet-Satin-Rose-of-Sharon)). This deciduous shrub blooms in summer, is hardy in USDA zones 5–9, and grows best in full sun. ## Garden Use Allow a mature shrub about 8–12 feet tall and 6–10 feet wide. Use it as a flowering hedge, screen, or mixed-border feature; its long summer display also suits butterfly and hummingbird plantings. ## Growing Conditions Choose a well-drained site with medium moisture. Keep soil from becoming extremely dry or waterlogged, and water during establishment and long dry spells. It tolerates heat and salt and resists deer. ## Seasonal Interest Large violet-pink flowers with red centers open through summer and may continue into early fall. The upright, dense, freely branching shrub provides a strong flowering backdrop. ## Maintenance Prune lightly in late winter or early spring if shaping is needed; flowers form on new growth.
