About Summer Spice® Hardy Hibiscus Bleu Brulee™

Summer Spice® Bleu Brulee™ is a compact hardy hibiscus with large lilac-blue flowers, steel-blue tones, and contrasting red eyes. It carries flowers repeatedly from midsummer into early fall, extending color after many summer perennials have peaked. ## Landscape role Use it as a flowering specimen or in massed perennial beds where its broad green foliage and rounded shape have room. The exact selection is listed at 3–4 feet tall and wide in zones 5–9, and its lilac-blue color was noted by the [Chicago Botanic Garden](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-evaluation/hibiscus). The [Sooner Plant Farm profile](https://www.soonerplantfarm.com/plant/hardy-hibiscus-summer-spice-bleu-brulee) describes sturdy, rounded growth and flowers with red eyes. ## Growing conditions Give the plant full sun and moisture-retentive soil with good drainage. Keep soil evenly moist while the plant is actively growing. Hardy hibiscus can emerge late in spring, so leave space for new shoots before clearing the planting after winter. ## Seasonal display Flowers open from midsummer into early fall. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms, and the rounded plant fills out as stems grow through summer. ## Maintenance Remove dead canes in early spring after winter and allow time for fresh growth to appear. Sooner recommends one annual application of slow-release fertilizer. Water during dry periods while the plant is growing, especially in warm weather.
