Blue Angel Hosta

Hosta ‘Blue Angel’ is a large, clump-forming perennial grown for its broad, blue leaves and midsummer flowers. Its substantial leaves create a calm ground-level focal point beneath trees and shrubs, while upright flower scapes rise above the foliage in midsummer. The blue surface color lasts best where afternoon sun is limited. ## Growing conditions Plant in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Walters Gardens recommends dappled or filtered light and notes that blue hostas keep their color longer in deeper shade; water consistently during dry weather so the large leaves do not lose quality. ## Maintenance Remove tired leaves after frost and clear damaged foliage as needed. Divide an established clump in early spring or late summer if more plants are wanted; mature hostas can also remain undisturbed as they expand. Watch for slugs in damp, sheltered beds and keep mulch from resting against the crown.
