Create design onlineAbout Blue Mouse Ears Hosta
Hosta ‘Blue Mouse Ears’ makes a compact mound of thick, rounded blue-green leaves that curl like small ears. Pale lavender scapes carry violet flowers in midsummer.
## Plant profile
The North Carolina Extension profile describes this diminutive cultivar as a perennial for USDA zones 3a–8b, with foliage mounds about 6–12 inches high and 9–12 inches wide. A separate perennial listing gives a broader zone range of 2–9. It was selected as the 2008 Hosta of the Year and is suited to edging, rock gardens, and small shaded plantings.
## Garden care
Give it partial to deep shade and evenly moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Protect the small leaves from wind and hot afternoon sun. It can also be grown in a container.
## Maintenance
Divide established clumps in spring or fall if more plants are desired. Remove dead foliage after dormancy and check for slugs or snails.
