About Christmas Tree - Hosta

Hosta 'Christmas Tree' is a deciduous perennial grown for its puckered olive-green leaves and narrow creamy margins. Its rounded clump produces very pale lavender flowers in midsummer and suits sheltered partial shade. ## Garden profile This cultivar forms a leafy mound rather than a woody tree, with an RHS size of about 10 inches high by 20 inches across. Fertile, moist but well-drained soil supports steady growth; clay or loam can be suitable when drainage is good. Use it along a shaded border, beneath shrubs, or as a low ground-cover accent where its textured foliage can be seen. ## Seasonal care New leaves emerge in spring, followed by flower stems in midsummer. Keep the root zone from drying during establishment and extended dry spells, and shelter foliage from cold, drying winds. Hostas can be divided in early spring or late summer if a clump needs renewal. ## Maintenance Remove spent flower stems or dead foliage when they are no longer attractive, and clear the old leaves after the growing season. No routine pruning is needed. [RHS cultivar profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/44888/hosta-christmas-tree-v/details)
