Patriot - Hosta

Patriot is a Hosta selection with deep green leaves outlined by crisp white margins. The strongly variegated foliage adds contrast in shade, and mature clumps produce lavender flower spikes in summer. ## Garden Use Use Patriot along woodland paths, in shaded borders, or as a bright foliage accent beneath trees. Repeating plants gives the white margins a clean rhythm against darker groundcovers and shrubs. The [Phoenix Perennials profile](https://www.phoenixperennials.com/plant-encyclopedia/hosta-fortunei-patriot/) and [Next Generation Nursery listing](https://www.nextgenerationnursery.com/perennials/patriot-hosta/) describe the named cultivar's variegation and garden habit. ## Site and Care Hostas thrive in partial to full shade with moist, fertile soil that drains well. Protect the leaves from hot afternoon sun and water consistently during dry weather. Deer may browse hosta foliage, so consider the planting's exposure when selecting a site. ## Maintenance Remove spent flower scapes and clear old foliage after frost. Divide established clumps in spring or early fall, then water thoroughly. Maintain a light mulch layer and inspect fresh growth for slugs or snails, particularly during wet weather.
