About Gator Cup™Gold - Hosta

Gator Cup™Gold is a named Hosta selection for foliage-led shade plantings. Hostas form clumps of leaves with wide variation in color, shape, texture, and mature scale among cultivars, making them a useful foliage layer in shaded gardens. ## Garden Use Use it in a shaded border or woodland-style perennial bed, where its leaves can contrast with finer textures. Hostas flower in summer and can attract pollinators, but foliage is generally their main landscape contribution, and cultivars differ widely in appearance and scale ([NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hosta/); [Iowa State University Extension](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/all-about-hostas)). ## Growing Conditions Provide morning sun or dappled shade and moist, well-drained soil. Water when the soil dries, especially below trees, where root competition can hasten drying; avoid persistently soggy ground. In hot regions, filtered light can help limit leaf scorch during dry weather. ## Maintenance Watch for slugs and snails, which can mark foliage in damp conditions. Divide established clumps in early spring as shoots emerge when renewal or propagation is desired. Remove spent flower stalks after bloom if a tidier appearance is preferred.
