About Grand Tiara - Hosta

Grand Tiara is a compact hosta grown for broad chartreuse leaves with dark green centers and a wide gold margin. Its foliage forms a low clump, while purple-striped, bell-shaped flowers rise above the leaves in midsummer. ## Seasonal Interest Variegated leaves provide color through the growing season, followed by purple-striped flowers and seed pods in midsummer. The breeder describes this cultivar as a mutation of Golden Tiara with a wider gold margin ([Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HSGRT)); the American Hosta Society registrar records H. ‘Grand Tiara’ ([AHS Registrar](https://www.hostaregistrar.org/search_item/2264)). ## Growing Conditions Grow in full or partial shade in moist, well-drained, fertile soil. Morning light is tolerated, but protect the leaves from hot afternoon sun and keep moisture consistent ([Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HSGRT), [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/114982/hosta-grand-tiara-v/details), [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hosta/)). ## Landscape Use Use it along borders or paths, in mass plantings, or in a shaded container. Its broad leaves can cover fading spring-bulb foliage, and its summer flowers attract hummingbirds ([Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HSGRT)). ## Maintenance Water during dry periods. Remove old foliage after it dies back, and divide clumps when additional plants are wanted.
