About Hideout - Hosta

‘Hideout’ is a miniature hosta with narrow, slightly twisted leaves: white centers are framed by irregular green margins. Its lavender flowers rise above a compact rosette, and the small scale suits a container or the front edge of a shaded planting. [Eurohosta](https://www.eurohosta.com/hosta-hideout) lists the cultivar’s variegated foliage and growth habit. ## Cultivar character Eurohosta records ‘Hideout’ as registered by L. Jones in 2006. The miniature leaves are the principal feature; placing the plant where it can be seen close-up makes the irregular margins easier to appreciate. ## Garden conditions Provide filtered light or part to full shade. White-centered hostas can scorch in strong direct sun, while moist, humus-rich soil supports steady growth. A small pot with drainage holes or a protected position near a path keeps the foliage visible without crowding larger hostas. ## Maintenance Water regularly while the plant establishes, then keep the root zone from drying completely in hot weather. Remove frost-killed foliage after it dies back, and divide only when the rosette becomes crowded. Slugs and snails may mark the leaves; Iowa State Extension outlines hosta pest and care basics in its [hosta guide](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/all-about-hostas).
