Hosta ‘Jurassic Park’ is a large, clump-forming perennial with green, variegated leaves marked in gold-yellow tones. In summer, tall scapes bear lavender-purple flowers, while the broad foliage creates a substantial display in shaded planting. The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/272380/hosta-jurassic-park/details) and [Sooner Plant Farm](https://www.soonerplantfarm.com/plant/hosta-jurassic-park) describe this named selection.
### Placement
Give it partial shade or filtered light, with protection from hot afternoon sun. Use it as a foliage anchor in a shaded border, woodland edge, or spacious container. Leave room around the clump for its mature leaves and for air to move through the planting. The [Vandermeer Nursery profile](https://www.vandermeernursery.com/products/hosta-jurassic-park) also recommends a shaded, moist site.
### Soil and water
Grow hostas in fertile, humus-rich soil that retains moisture but drains freely. Water through dry periods, especially while the plant establishes or when it receives more sun. A layer of organic mulch can moderate soil moisture; keep it away from the crown and avoid waterlogged roots. See [Iowa State Extension’s hosta guide](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/all-about-hostas) and [NC State Extension’s Hosta profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hosta/).
### Seasonal care
Check the broad leaves for slug or snail feeding during damp weather. Remove damaged foliage as needed and clear dead leaves after frost. If the clump becomes crowded, divide it in spring or early fall and replant the divisions promptly.
## Maintenance
Maintain even moisture during summer dry spells, keep mulch clear of the crown, and inspect for slug damage. Divide congested clumps when needed and remove spent flower scapes after bloom for a tidier outline. [Clemson Cooperative Extension’s hosta guide](https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/hosta/).
