About Medio Picta - Hosta

Hosta 'Medio Picta' is a white-centered hosta with green margins and gently rippled foliage. Its variegation gives a shaded planting a bright spring accent and a softer green-and-white pattern as the season advances. ## Foliage and flowers White-centered “mediopicta” forms belong to the historic Undulata group, whose garden-cultivar origins remain unresolved. The leaves can show vivid spring color, then lose contrast in heat or excessive sun; lavender flowers rise on tall scapes in summer. Organic matter helps retain moisture while maintaining drainage. A location protected from hot afternoon sun can help the leaves remain attractive later in summer. ## Maintenance Remove frost-damaged foliage after dormancy and refresh mulch in spring. Divide a vigorous clump when it spreads beyond its space, and keep the crown free of piled leaves or wet mulch. Check periodically for slug damage, which is common on thin-leaved hostas.
